Gen 1 was one and done, but Gen 5 ended up having SIX kids before the last one finally had the requisite eye color. It’s been interesting, since I never know how many kids they’ll need to have in order to pass on the eye color. I also have been mostly rolling traits randomly (though after the third heir in a row rolled “adventurous” I let myself reroll). My latest legacy has gotten to generation six! The only hard and fast rule I have is that I gave my founder the reddish eye color, and the generation heir must have that eye color. So I make my own rules, and then let myself break them whenever I want. I love to do legacy challenges, but I’m the same as you in that trying to follow someone else’s rules always leads to boredom and stifles my creativity. □Īlso you're totally free to recommend your own Challenge if you've created one!! I'm tired of playing / seeing the same Challenges over and over and really appreciate new stuff. I'd much prefer having some restrictions or be given a bigger task, but have the freedom to deal with things however I see fit, so that I can still get to actually be creative instead of just playing out a story that someone else came up with in excruciating detail.Ĭan anyone recommend a Legacy Challenge that doesn't have like four pages worth of rules? Again, some pointers like given Traits or some "missions" are fine, but I don't really want multiple paragraphs of given story for each generation. In the end, I'd feel like I'd constantly have to check the rules to not forget anything, and that's not the kind of challenge I'm looking for. For example, you have to choose a particular set of Traits, a specific Aspiration and then get the entire story of each generation laid out for you. Now, I'm completely fine with some rules and restrictions, but the problem is that many, many Legacy Challenges out there are planned out in such extreme detail that they leave little room for creativity. Unfortunately, I haven't really found one that I like. Since my usual gameplay is kinda "aimless" and I just let a lot of things happen as I go, I've been wanting to try a Legacy Challenge for some time now to give me some goals to chase. I hope it's okay to ask this here, I'm honestly running out of places to go.

Alfred built on existing structures, at first using what was already in place, such as hilltop defences and mustering sites of the eighth and early ninth centuries, but many of the most innovative developments in defensive organisation clearly occurred in the reign of his son, Edward the Elder (899–924). Putting all this evidence together makes it likely that Alfred the Great’s military innovations were part of a continuing development, that started in the eight century in Mercia and continued long after his death. Image courtesy of the Environmental Agency, Author provided Outline of the Saxon ramparts and ‘Alfredian’ streetplan is clear. Landscape analysis is also helping to identify the important mustering sites, crucial to mobilisation, without which the military system would not have worked.Īerial view of the Burghal Hidage site of Wallingford with the Thames in partial flood. Written sources and archaeological excavation confirm that beacons were in use in the early 11th century. But place-names also suggest the existence of elaborate systems of beacons and lookouts, often spaced at regular intervals, visible to each other and to known strongholds, and providing control over important route-ways. Place-names containing such compounds as Old English here-pæð or fyrd-weg, both meaning “army road”, are especially important. The major strongholds listed in the Burghal Hidage have received much attention, but landscape research is also now helping to provide a fuller picture, allowing us to identify important early route-ways and river crossing-points. Late Anglo-Saxon Winchester showing the characteristic arrangement of streets and town defences often accredited to Alfred the Great. While the general development of early emergency measures – where defence policy was determined by inaccessibility and expediency – are testimony to Alfred’s civil defence strategy, the more long-term development of purpose-built towns, around which England’s economy and administration became organised, only took place during the reigns of Alfred’s successors. Sometimes this occurred at the same location, but in the case of strongholds at Iron Age hill forts, such as Burpham (Sussex), Chisbury (Wiltshire), and Pilton (Devon), more suitable locations for defended towns were sought nearby. Excavations in Worcester, by contrast, show that the distinctive “Alfredian” street plan there only came into use in the late tenth or early 11th century, around 100 years after Alfred’s death.Īrchaeological evidence shows that many Bughal Hidage strongholds started as defensive sites which only later developed into towns. For example, in Winchester radiocarbon and archaeomagnetic dating suggests the new urban plan was probably built around 840–80, almost certainly, therefore, before Alfred’s victory of 878 and probably before he even became king. But the evidence doesn’t entirely bear this out. It has been argued that the latter represent an “Alfredian” vision of urban planning. Others were new burhs raised with an innovative design that imitated the regular Roman plan. Over the past 40 years, much archaeological evidence has been gathered about the Burghal Hidage strongholds, many of which were former Roman towns or Iron Age hill forts that were reused or refurbished as Anglo-Saxon military sites. Trekker incorporated FlexBeam scaffolding cantilevered from rooftops in addition to windows on lower levels to provide access to the work edge and soffit and allow fall protection as contractors repaired the roof. “Once I learned combined with my knowledge in the scaffold industry, it enabled me to really do some neat things,” said Turner.Ĭlaremont enthusiastically approved of the plan, and Trekker began erecting the scaffolding in the last week of November with a crew of six. The design is sent for review and once approved, the same suite of software outputs 1) a materials list that accounts for every component, 2) a 2D drawing, and 3) a 3D digital drawing that allows builders to verify each piece and connection point in the field. “I’ve been using that software for about three years, and I worked closely with Layher learning how to use it,” said Turner.įirst, an AutoCAD drawing of a building is uploaded and a custom scaffold is designed affixed to it. The software is part of a digital practice created by Layher to save scaffolders time and money. With that, Turner set about detailing a drawing in LayPLAN software. He sent an initial design sketch to Obed Bosch, Layher Client Service Manager, and Julien Riga & Tracy Dutting-Kane, Layher Engineers, who verified it could work. Recalling the cantilever possibilities of the FlexBeam, Turner endeavored to use the product to stretch out across the roof, reaching 7 meters out from the sides and 30 feet across the front of the building. The product expands the possibilities of the standard Layher Allround scaffolding for soffit, gantry and cantilever access and provides significant advantages over lattice beams that require time-consuming assembly. Where required, beams may be joined end-to-end via a connector.Ĭonnection points along the beam length allow significantly higher point-load applications than conventional lattice beams. FlexBeams come in lengths of 3 to 7 meters with a depth of 280 mm. Introduced in April 2019, the Layher FlexBeam is a rectangular hollow aluminum beam originally designed for suspension and support applications. “When I first saw the FlexBeam, I saw the potential,” said Turner. Layher first showcased FlexBeam to Trekker employees at an onsite demonstration for clients more than a year ago. “Rather than shutting down a building that is doing a million dollars or more, we are able to come around multiple levels at a fraction of the price.” “When I was trying to come up with a solution, the FlexBeam came to mind,” Turner said. Turner serves as access division manager at Trekker, a company that provides building supplies and equipment, including forming and shoring, in the southern U.S. In October 2020, Claremont reached out to Micah Turner at Trekker Group – the scaffolder responsible for Harbor Village – to take a look. Claremont was impressed by the 10-story scaffold that wrapped the gulf-side building, figuring the contractor responsible may be able to help in similar fashion. Like Phoenix II, Harbor Village is a high rise located along the beach. The building was also multi-layered, with staggered roofs varying from 180 feet to 350 feet above ground, requiring consideration of multiple potential staging areas.Īnticipating the level of complexity and effort needed, a Claremont representative recalled another recent and challenging project: Harbor Village out of Pensacola. At the front, a four-lane highway separated by only a small lawn, made construction debris a concern. A winding pool snaked through piers at the building’s base, further eliminating a staging area. Like other gulf properties, their condos in Orange Beach had been hard hit by regional hurricanes and were in desperate need of repair.Īdditionally, this project – a high rise resort named Phoenix West II – posed even more challenges. Claremont Properties, a general contractor based in Texas, recently searched for a solution to these common problems for a job along the Alabama coast. It is VERY hard for me to say what all quests I've done, for I did many of the intro quests, have done the ones in NW cornerish part to the end, but the harrison jones line is locked out for me. (I am not sure if these kinds of quests exist in Uldum as much as in TH or even at all, as I had only done about a dozen or so quests in Uldum, but I know there are at least a handful of these in TH, and I have only completed 45 quests here so far).Ĭomment by mikeebscok, I have read any post I can find on how to continue/maintain this quest chain, have done the questline that leads to a ball of fire( the drop one), in the middle of trying to get a scarab to drop, but just found harrison jones, which I'm almost positive is where somehow it got bugged. As a shadow priest, these quests go extremely fast and this may be something to consider if you are trying to level to 85 as fast as possible. Even if the enemy is very close to death, just hitting them once will usually give you credit for the kill. This means you can tag a lot of them in a short time and let the NPC's burn them down. I have noticed that there are a lot of quests in TH that require you to kill mobs that are already being attacked by NPC's. Another side note for those of you trying to decide whether to level here or TH. It's not that I do not like this zone, I just found TH to be a lot more interesting, aesthetically and quest-wise. As a side note, I did complete all of the dungeon quests for BRC, Vortex and Stonecore, which is a decent amount of XP and certainly helped in not needing to do many quests in Uldum. I completed all of Hyjal, enough of Vashj'ir to get the seahorse mount (about a dozen or so quests), almost all of Deepholm, and only had to do a handful of quests here before I hit 84 and went to TH. Those of you coming from Deepholm trying to get to 84 to be able to get to Twilight Highlands, this is the perfect place. (Edit awaits as soon as the Expasion Launches)Ĭomment by nolesI am not sure why wowhead lists this zone as 84-85. The grand explorer Brann Bronzebeard will also make a reappearance in this zone as he searches for more answers regarding the Titans' history. Its theme is said to have been heavily inspired by Ancient Egypt. The third expansion of the game, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, will add Uldum as a new vast zone south of Un'goro Crater. Somewhere in Uldum is a some sort of superweapon. It is the homeland of stone-cat people known as Tol'vir and is rich with Titan lore. Uldum (pronounced: /uːl'duːm/), also known as "The Land of the Titans" is an ancient desert located on the southern coast of Kalimdor, surrounded by the Un'Goro Crater in the north, Tanaris Desert in the east and Silithus in the northwest. |
